Automatic recommendation of music tracks and musicians for collaboration in an online jam community

While an essential aspect of making music is the collaboration with other musicians, organising and conducting joint jam sessions traditionally requires time, space, and physical presence. In order to facilitate this process, pioneering companies like sofasession provide a platform for online collaboration using low-latency and high-quality connections over the Internet, resulting in active online jam communities that continuously create and record a wealth of new musical content. To support and enhance the creative process and output, the aim of this project is to analyze the musical content and the users' preferences to recommend suited music material and potential collaborators. To this end, we will develop and apply methods for Music Information Retrieval and collaborative Recommender Systems. Beyond the recommendation of music tracks and musicians, we will also investigate intelligent methods for automatic music variation and improvisation to explore the potential of "virtual band mates" for future developments.
