Advanced and Applies Vibrational Spectroscopy

01.11.2000 - 31.03.2005
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
The proposed Training Site offers doctoral training in the area of analytical chemistry, chemometrics and bioprocess engineering. In particular new analytical techniques based upon advanced vibrational spectroscopy will be developed and applied to monitor fermentation processes. Furthermore, basic research is devoted to extend the problem solving capabilities of vibrational spectroscopy by combining latest technological developments (e.g. quantum cascade lasers) with sensing schemes and sample manipulation techniques. Complementary to the instrumental aspects special attention will be given to chemometric techniques (multivariate calibration techniques and 2 dimensional correlation spectroscopy) to fully exploit the wealth of information contained in the generated data. The following topics shall give an outline on typical areas of research which will be offered to the fellows: · Development of innovative analytical systems e.g. based upon the combination of precise flow injection like systems and FT-IR, IR or FT-Raman spectroscopic dtection · Investigation of new concepts and strategies for improving sensitivity ans selectivity in vibrational spectroscopy such as exploration of surface enhanced IR and Raman spectroscopy, adaptation of the concept of flow through sensors to vibrational spectroscopy as well as investigation of new selective sensor materials (molecular imprinted polymers) · Development of analytical techniques for process analysis based on modern 3-way calibration
