Soil-Abrasivity Starting Project

01.10.2009 - 01.10.2010
Assigned research project
Soil-abrasivity has important impact on the wear of cutting and drilling tools in soft ground. Natural grain mixtures are charactered by their variability of mineral composition, grain size, grain roundness, packing density und porosity, etc. These in-situ soil conditions are known to effect the soil abrasivity, but until now it wasn¿t possible to quantify their impact. During the starting-project a new laboratory testing gadget is developed to determine the impact of the above named in-situ soil conditions on the soil abrasivity. The basis for further research on the field of soil-abrasivity shall be provided.
