Austrian Grid (Phase II)
01.04.2007 - 01.03.2009
Research funding project
The programpackage WIEN2k, which was developed in our group, is used worldwide by more than 1250 groups in industry and research. It calculates on the basis of quantum mechanics the properties of solids like materials for optical and magnetical storage, semiconductors, nanomaterials or catalysis. To use WIEN2k in a Grid environment, we developed W2Grid, a versatile tool to help the scientist in the management of his jobs. It selects automatically the best available computing ressources and deals with filetransfer and details like the specific operating system. This will lead to a much better utilization of the computing ressources.
