Flood research for railroad protection

01.12.2005 - 30.11.2010
Assigned research project
Railways are threatened by several natural hazards: Avalanches, floods in rivers near the railway line, floods and debris flow in streams crossing the railway line, slope failures, base failure, etc. In this project a hazard management system for railways is being developed in interdisciplinary cooperation. Hydrologists, specialists in foundation work and soil mechanics and experts in railway systems are working together with the customer in order to establish a practically oriented system for railway safety.
