Mit mehr als 60 wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeitern ist das Institut für Telekommunikation (ITC) eines der größten der Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik der TU Wien. Die Ursprünge des Instituts wurden 1928 gegründet. Das Institut kann auf eine lange Reihe von Spitzenleistungen in Forschung und Lehre zurückblicken. In seiner Geschichte hat das Institut eine Reihe von organisatorischen Änderungen durchlaufen, die letzte im Jahr 2011, als das ehemalige Institut für Nachrichtentechnik und Hochfrequenztechnik (INTHFT) und das ehemalige Institut für Breitbandkommunikation (IBK) zum neuen Institut für Telekommunikation (ITC) fusionierten.

Das Institut trägt zur Lehre in der Elektrotechnik und Informatik bei, indem es ein breites Spektrum an Lehrveranstaltungen in den Bereichen Signale und Systeme, Kommunikation, Hochfrequenztechnik und Kommunikationsnetze anbietet. Das Institut forscht auf praxisrelevanten Gebieten wie Kommunikationsnetze, mobile Kommunikation, drahtlose Systeme, Multimediasysteme, Signalverarbeitung, Kommunikationstheorie und Hochfrequenztechnik. Die Projekte reichen von der Grundlagenforschung bis zum Hardware-Design und werden vielfach in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Industriepartnern und/oder im Rahmen internationaler Projekte und Programme durchgeführt.

Das Christian-Doppler-Labor für Digital Twin assisted AI for sustainable Radio Access Networks ist am Institut angesiedelt.

With more than 60 scientific staff, the Institute of Telecommunications (ITC) is one of the largest in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology). With the core of the institute founded in 1928, it has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. In its history, the institute went through a number of organisational changes, with the most recent one in 2011, when the former Institute of Communications and Radio-Frequency Engineering (INTHFT) and the former Institute of Broadband Communications (IBK) merged to form the new Institute of Telecommunica-tions (TC).

The institute contributes to teaching in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science through courses covering a wide range of subjects in signals and systems, communications, radio-frequency engineering, and communication networks. The institute’s research is in fields of practical relevance, including communication networks, mobile communications, wireless systems, multimedia systems, signal processing, communication theory, and radio frequency engineering. Projects range from fundamental research to hardware design and many of them are carried out in close cooperation with industrial partners and/or in the framework of international projects and programs.

The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Digital Twin assisted AI for sustainable Radio Access Networks is hosted by the institute.
