242.2.1 Am Institut für Analysis und Scientific Computing, E 101, Forschungsbereich Numerik E 101-02, der Technischen Universität ist eine Stelle für eine_n Assistent_in (PräDoc) voraussichtlich ab 01.08.2019 bis 30.06.2023,  Gehaltsgruppe B1, mit einem Beschäftigungsausmaß von 30 Wochenstunden zu besetzen.

Das monatliche Mindestentgelt für diese Gehaltsgruppe beträgt derzeit € 2.148,40 brutto (14x jährlich). Aufgrund tätigkeitsbezogener Vorerfahrungen kann sich das Entgelt erhöhen.

Aufnahmebedingungen:
abgeschlossenes Magister-, Diplom-, Masterstudium der Fachrichtung Mathematik bzw. gleichwertiges Universitätsstudium im In- und Ausland

Sonstige Kenntnisse:
The successful candidate will work on the project "Theory and Numerics of Maxwell-LLG equations" within the CRC "Wave Phenomena" in a collaboration between TU Wien, University of Tuebingen, and KIT Karlsruhe.  

The Landau-Lipschitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation models the behavior of magnetic phenomena on microscopic levels. Coupled with the Maxwell equations, this gives a valid description of real-life phenomena in hard-disks, magnetic sensors, and more. Possible aspects of the PhD research include: 

- a posteriori error estimation and adaptive approximation,
- existence and regularity theory of the LLG equation,
- the numerical treatment of stochastic noise Maxwell-LLG system.

The PhD candidate can benefit from the collaboration between the three universities through workshops, research stays, and courses. The participation on international scientific conferences and the presentation of research results is part of the position. The candidate will be part of a big network of researchers on all levels (PhD candidates, post-docs, professors) working in the CRC.

242.2.2 The Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation, E120, the research group Climate and Environmental Remote Sensing, E120-01-2, of TU Wien is seeking a motivated University assistant (postdoc) in microwave remote sensing (f/m).

The Climate and Environmental Remote Sensing group (http://climers.geo.tuwien.ac.at/) develops long-term remote sensing datasets of soil moisture and vegetation and uses them to address urgent climatological and environmental issues. We work closely together with the Microwave Remote Sensing group (http://rs.geo.tuwien.ac.at/), one of the world leading groups in the retrieval of soil moisture and land surface characteristics from active microwave remote sensing. Together we employ about 40 staff members currently working on approximately 15 projects supported by various national, European and international programs, grants and funding sources.

To support our research, we are looking for a postdoctoral project assistant with a strong technological interest to develop remote sensing based approaches for quantifying the impact of climate and humans on the terrestrial ecosystems. The selected candidate will develop and use novel global (microwave) remote sensing products of soil moisture and vegetation for climate research. Apart from doing research, the candidate will support our team in the application and coordination of projects funded by third parties (e.g. ESA, EU) and support our teaching activities.

Required skills:
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in geodesy, environmental sciences, physics, climate sciences, information sciences, physics, physical geography, geoinformation, meteorology, or similar
- Experience in (microwave) remote sensing
- Profound programming skills (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, C++)
- Experience in academic teaching
- Proven track record in international peer-reviewed journals

Assets:
- Experience in machine learning
- Strong statistical Background
- Experience in (eco-)hydrological modelling
- Experience in model-data Integration
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
- Experience in the application and coordination of projects funded by third parties (e.g. ESA, EU)
