Ausschreibung einer Stelle einer_eines Universitätsprofessor_in für das Fachgebiet Autonome Systeme

An der Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik ist die Stelle einer_eines Universitätsprofessorin_Universitätsprofessors für das Fachgebiet Autonome Systeme in einem unbefristeten (Vollbeschäftigung) vertraglichen Dienstverhältnis ab 01.01.2020 zu besetzen.
Es handelt sich um eine Professur gemäß § 98 UG 2002 und wird als Stiftungsprofessur in den ersten drei Jahren durch die B&C Privatstiftung sowie die Firma TTTech gefördert.
Die Professur für Autonome Systeme ist im Entwicklungsplan der TU Wien dem Forschungs­schwerpunkt Information and Communication Technologies zugeordnet. Die Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik betreibt fünf Forschungsgebiete (Photonik, Mikro- und Nanoelektronik, Telekommunikation, System- und Automatisierungstechnik, Energietechnologien und -systeme). Das Arbeitsgebiet der_des zukünftigen Stelleninhaber_in soll im Bereich Autonome Systeme liegen, mit einem Schwerpunkt im_in den Gebiet_en
- Entwurf, Realisierung, Verifikation und wissenschaftliche Evaluierung von ausfallssicheren autonomen und semi-autonomen mobilen Systemen, z.B. Robotern, Maschinen, Fahrzeugen, Fluggeräten und/oder Miniatur-Robotern und deren Selbst-Organisation,
- kognitiv-inspirierte und Machine-Learning-basierte Methoden für autonome Systeme,
- neuartige Methoden zur Systemintegration von ausfallsicheren autonomen Systemen sowie deren Interaktion mit der Umgebung und Infrastruktur,
- verteilte, kooperierende selbst-lernende autonome Systeme. 
Diese Professur soll am Institut für Computertechnik eine interdisziplinäre Forschungsgruppe aufbauen, die sich mit aktuellen Herausforderungen realer autonomer Systeme sowohl durch theoretische Arbeiten als auch durch experimentelle Forschung ausein­ander­setzen wird.
Die Aufgaben einer_eines Universitätsprofessorin_Universitätsprofessors an der TU Wien beinhalten zusätzlich zur Forschung auch Lehrtätigkeit  in den Ingenieursfächern der Bachelor-, Master- und PhD-Studien der Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik sowie Mitarbeit im Management des Instituts und der Fakultät.
Anforderungsprofil:
- Ein der Verwendung entsprechendes abgeschlossenes Doktorats- oder PhD- Studium an einer inländischen oder gleichwertigen ausländischen Universität oder Forschungseinrichtung
- Eine an einer inländischen oder gleichwertigen ausländischen Universität erworbene Lehrbefugnis (venia docendi) oder eine der Lehrbefugnis als Universitätsdozent_in gleich zu wertende wissenschaftliche Befähigung
- Publikationen in international renommierten wissenschaftlichen Fachzeitschriften in den Arbeitsgebieten der Professur
- Die pädagogische und didaktische Eignung für akademische Lehre im genannten Fachgebiet
- Facheinschlägige Forschungserfahrung mit nationaler und internationaler Reputation sowie Fähigkeit zur Netzwerkbildung
- Erfordernis eines Forschungs- und Lehrkonzeptes
- Facheinschlägige Auslandserfahrung
- Erwerb außeruniversitärer Praxis im In- oder Ausland
- Erfahrung in der Akquisition, Abwicklung und Leitung von Forschungsprojekten
- Die Eignung und Bereitschaft zur Führung eines Forschungsbereiches bzw. einer Forschungsgruppe
- Idealerweise verfügt die_der Stelleninhaber_in über Kompetenzen bzw. Erfahrung im Bereich der Nachwuchsförderung und Frauenförderung sowie im Bereich Gender Mainstreaming
- Sofern keine ausreichenden Deutschkenntnisse vorliegen, wird die Bereitschaft zum baldigen Erlernen der deutschen Sprache vorausgesetzt, welche für den Unterricht in Bachelorstudien und die Mitarbeit im Management des Instituts und der Fakultät sowie in universitären Gremien ermöglicht.
- Es wird erwartet, dass die_der Stelleninhaber_in ihren_seinen Lebensmittelpunkt nach Wien verlegt.

At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology the position for a full-time indefinite-term University Professor for the specialist field of “Autonomous Systems” with contractual employment is expected to be filled as of 01.01.2020.
This is a professorship regulated by § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG) and a Foundation Professorship supported in the first three years by the B&C Privatstiftung as well as the company TTTech.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, one of the eight faculties at TU Wien, has an excellent international reputation and plays an active role in national and international research. The current research areas of the faculty are: Photonics, Micro- and Nanoelectronics, Telecommunications, Systems and Control Engineering as well as Energy Technology and Energy Systems. The position as professor for Autonomous Systems has been allocated in TU Wien’s development plan to the focal areas of research on Information and Communication Technology. The future incumbent’s field of work should be Autonomous Systems, with a focus on one or more of the following:
- Design, realization and scientific evaluation of safety-critical autonomous and embodied semi-autonomous mobile systems, e.g. autonomous robots, airborne, waterborne or ground vehicles, miniature robots and their self-organisation. It is expected that candidates are willing to focus their research on ground vehicles and/or autonomous robots.
- Cognition-inspired and machine learning based methods for autonomous systems.
- Novel methods for the system integration of safety-critical autonomous systems as well as their interaction with their environment and infrastructure.
- Distributed, collaborating self-learning autonomous systems.
This chair is expected to build up an interdisciplinary research group at the Institute of Computer Technologies that will study and develop solutions for challenges of real autonomous systems both theoretically and through experimental research.
The duties of a university professor at TU Wien include, in addition to research, teaching activities in the engineering fields of the Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as collaboration in management of the institute and the faculty.
Profile of requirements:
- Completed doctoral or PhD studies corresponding to the deployment described from a domestic or equivalent foreign university or research institution
- The qualification for lecturing (venia docendi) acquired at a domestic or equivalent foreign university or an academic qualification recognised as equivalent to qualification as a university lecturer
- Publications in internationally recognised academic professional journals in the fields of work of the professorship
- Pedagogic and didactic qualification for academic teaching in the field of specialisation cited
- Research experience relevant to the field of specialisation with national and international reputation as well as skills in networking
- Requirement of a research and teaching strategy
- Experience abroad in the relevant field of specialisation
- Acquisition of domestic or foreign practical experience in a non-university environment
- Experience in recruitment, completion and management of research projects
- Suitability and willingness to manage a research division or a research group
- The incumbent will ideally have competence or experience in the professional promotion of young scholars and women as well as in the field of gender mainstreaming
- In case there is no adequate knowledge of German, willingness to quickly learn German is presupposed for teaching in bachelor programmes and participation in management of the institute and the faculty as well as in university bodies
- It is expected that Wien becomes the candidate’s main place of residence.
