Ziele der Lehrveranstaltung
The course introduces the topics of designing and managing services with autonomic properties.The goal of the course is to provide a basic introduction to autonomic services and architectures, to discuss their role in Virtual Organizations and e-science applications, and to present in detail self-managing and autonomic optimization techniques.
Inhalt der Lehrveranstaltung
Program of the course: 1. Introduction: Autonomic services research issues. Architecture of Autonomic service centers. 2. Run time support of autonomic services: services retrieval, QoS negotiation and optimization, adaptive Web services. 3. Self-healing systems: definition and basic principles; approaches to self-healing processes; the PAWS approach and WS-Diamond. 4. Design of autonomic services; reliable services. 5. Web Service retrieval.

Course of the Vienna PhD School of Informatics and will be held by Prof. Barbara Pernici, Politecnico di Milano. The course will be held as follows: May 31st: 9-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. in room 183/2 June 1st: 9-12 a.m. (room 183/2) and 1-3 p.m. (room "von Neumann") July 13th - July 14th, 2010: schedule and place to be informed.

Exams will consist in a presentation of a paper related to one of the course topics and in the preparation of a report with a critical analysis of 3-5 papers, proposed by the students and agreed with the instructor.
