Aim of course

Guest Professor WS 2016/17, Thomas Mical

Works of architecture consist of a material bearer and a discursive element that foregrounds and justifies some aspects of the physical thing while suppressing others. The goal of this course is to examine how the discourse does not only co-constitute architectural objects but also orients and delimits creative thinking in architecture by selecting paradigmatic cases, establishing themes, dismissing questions

Subject of course

This course looks at the relationship of architecture, theory, and exhibition in three seminars - 1) the Museum and the City, 2) assemblages, 3) austerity. The intention is to find a new logic of expanding architectural theory as a demonstration into the city, as assemblage, in the age of austerity. It is an open-ended trajectory, so students will compile a digital mini-exhibition as their synopsis of their learning
