The goal of the module Architecture and Society (Architektur und Gesellschaft) is to make the students aware of ethical, social and politcal dimensions of architecture and to provide the tools to integrate these implications into architectural design.
The module Architecture and Society adresses ethical, social and political issues in architecture which are inherently connected to the production of architecture. The decision to build - or not to build - something is a highly political issue. Consequently, the architectural design of public and private spaces is connected to the constitution of social or gender identities, to power relations and access to goods or information. The variety of the social implications of the built environment will be shown by analysing and discussing a range of theoretical, art historical, social and urban planning concepts and specific case studies.
