After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply fundamental knowledge of Building Physics and to utilize domain-relevant tools and instruments to answer questions pertaining to building performance.
Students will gain competences as follows:
Technical and methodological competences: This course focuses on teaching the required fundamentals of building physics (thermal, visual and acoustical performance of buildings). In-depth knowledge of physical phenomena regarding mass and energy transfer in and around buildings is the focus. In terms of the qualification profile of the Master's program, this module/course thus contributes significantly to the acquisition of competences to perform normative calculations on the one hand and numerical simulations on the other hand and analyses in the field of structural building physics.
Cognitive and practical competences: Basic acquisition of the ability to apply contemporary, building physics evaluation, calculation and simulation methods and tools in a goal-oriented manner. Basic understanding of the areas of application and limitations of such tools, acquisition of the corresponding vocabulary as well as the ability to independently expand the basic content taught in the module / course by consulting appropriate resources, literature as well as in-depth modules.
Social competencies and self-competencies: Training of innovation competence and creativity to open up solution spaces by expanding the assessment tools for subject-specific questions; linking to state-of-the-art research and teaching in the domain of building physics; understanding the needs of different groups of people with regard to the technical module content.
Presentation and Discussion of relevant course material, exercise tasks, application of simple and advanced tools and instruments relevant in the domain.
