Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand and apply basic concepts in a set of important digital tools and medis, which are of importantce for Building Science and Technology.

In this course, students are exposed to various digital tools and media that are commonly used in the framework of the master programme Building Science & Technology to support knowledge-based design decision making, to conduct research, and to disseminate results. 

Subject of course

This module provides technical and methodological knowledge to relevant digital tools and media, as well as competent handling of a wide range of digital tools and media. These include word processing and spreadsheets, database environments, mathematics and statistics packages, information visualization, fundamentals of software engineering (including scripting) and scientific computing.

*** This course is taught in English and only accessible for students of the master programme Building Science & Technology !

*** The first lecture is scheduled on Monday, Oct 7, 9am s.t., in PC1-Room (bring your laptop - equipped with MS Office - also with you!). MS Office can be purchased inexpensively (TU students only) via http://www.sss.tuwien.ac.at/sss/

*** Arrange an account for the "EDV Labor" (Room PC-1) here in advance: www.archlab.tuwien.ac.at (at least one or two days in advance to first class!)

Teaching methods

  • Course in english language.
  • in class: presentation, discussion, and workshop of major concepts and applications in different domains, such as advanced use of office applications, simulation/advanced mathematics/programming environments, and CAD/BIM-environments. for conducting research.
  • Project work for exercising of different concepts and environments.
