TEMPORARY CINEMA
The time of celluloid is done. What happened to film history? It´s not quite the time of assassins, but the screen/veil has been rent.
So, ignoring for the moment, International Cinema, this semester we will focus on the two largest - ie, H`wood - movements: the Blockbuster and the Independent Film. Contemporary as temporary: original, sequel, prequel, franchise, series, and on and on. Or contemporary temporality (just think Boyhood).
Not quite oppositions, but not quite ´the same, but different; just `not quite`. And after all, what does `independent´ mean in Los Angeles?
Or quite indeed: both film and cinema are changing, have changed. For some, the assassin is named Digital (Time and the Image Dead!). This too we will deal with.
Well also take a quick detour in Time travel and Marilyn Monroe.
I hope it goes without saying that while the class might be `fun,´ it is also deadly serious about cinema and its many ramifications.
PS. As each class meeting is rather long we will not meet every week (the schedule will be discussed at the first meeting). Therefore, attendance at class is a must. (One pre-reported absence might be acceptable.) I know you have other classes to attend, but do not make scheduling conflicts for yourself. If you do, well, my class is your priority.
NB: Attendance at the first class is required; no one admitted after the first class (and please, don´t even ask - there are no exceptions).
