After successful completion of the course, students are able to assess structures, forces and barriers of climate-friendly spatial development, evaluate the possible contribution of spatial planning to climate protection and to identify the need for change as well as shaping options and the need for further research. 

Climate-friendly spatial planning sets the framework for the location, development and design of settlement areas, commercial areas as well as natural and green spaces. It coordinates the use of space by integrating sectoral planning and inter-regional planning. Through lectures, literature study and moderated discussions, climate-relevant topics from different sectors and specialized fields as well as their implementation in spatial planning are explained and reflected upon.

The course is assigned to elective module 13 of the bachelor programme spatial planning. 

The lecture will take place in presence mode in accordance with the current COVID-19 rules of TU Wien

Admission to the course is handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who take both courses of the elective module will be given preference.
