  • Credits: 4.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise
  • Format: Blended Learning

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • describe the importance of systems engineering for the design of safety-critical systems
  • know the methods and processes for a structured approach to systems engineering
  • analyse and design a system using a formal system description language and to use a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tool for this.

Subject of course

Introduction Systems Engineering, Development Processes, Complexity, Stakeholder Management, Innovation Management, Classic Requirements Management (Requirement Based Engineering), Variant Management, Validation and Verification, Human-Machine Interface, Model Theory, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE): Use Case Analysis, Architectures, Communication (Data, Matter, Energy) and Interface Specification, Behaviour (Activities and State Machines), Textual Requirements in the Model, Traceability, Mathematical evaluations using Parametric Diagrams

Teaching methods

Lecture (online part) supported by media (video sequences, educational films). Practical exercises on system design with MBSE using relevant software tools (attendance part).

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

The first course date is an attendance date where we introduce ourselves and the course and, conversely, also want to get to know you - without the anonymity of the online format. In the following weeks, the course takes place online as preparation for the attendance week (blocked) in December.
