Properties

  • Semester hours: 1.0
  • Credits: 1.0
  • Type: EX Excursion
  • Format: Presence

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • assess the complexity and diversity of geotechnical tasks,
  • better understand the special field of geotechnical engineering in all its aspects and facets,
  • understand problem-related solutions and strategies,
  • understand and evaluate basic relationships,
  • move properly and safely on construction sites.

Subject of course

Illustration of the contents presented in the courses of the institute on the basis of a specific case history. Basic explanations on project execution and on the prevailing geological-geotechnical situation on site. Discussion of the special ground engineering methods used on site, description of in-situ testing and measuring methods, information on the organization, handling and logistics of major construction sites, etc.

Teaching methods

Getting to know the practice of geotechnical engineering.

The field trip offers students the opportunity to see how the theoretical knowledge conveyed by the lecturer is applied to concrete geotechnical challenges in practice. Thus, a combination of theory and practice takes place, as well as the possibility to make valuable social contacts for the later professional life.
