After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand and apply the methods described under the item "Subject of Course". The theoretical models are primarily based on mathematical methods. The students are able to solve basic problems related to telecommunication system design and are equipped with the necessary background knowledge to understand the guiding principles of state-of-the-art telecommunication systems. Furthermore, in the exercises, practical application of the acquired theoretical models and mathematical methods to specific telecommunications tasks is practiced. This includes both handwritten calculation examples and the implementation of programming solutions.
The lecture starts both on Tuesdays and Thursdays at quarter past.
The exercise part is organised via a TUWEL course. Modalities and details for the exercise part will be announced in TUWEL. The TUWEL course will be activated at the beginning to middle of March. Please register for the course in TISS so that your registration can be automatically transferred to TUWEL.
Please send enquiries regarding the exercises (not the lecture) to tk231@list.tuwien.ac.at.
A preliminary discussion of the exercise will take place during the first lecture.
Positive completion of the course requires both a positive exercise part and a positive theoretical part.
The exercise part consists of optional calculus exercises, optional Matlab exercises and an optional written exam at the end of the semester. Positive completion of the exercise part requires that sufficient points are earned from these three options (see TUWEL for details).
If the exercise part is failed, the course will be graded negatively. The exercise part must then be repeated in full. A positive exercise result is retained for three years.
The theoretical part can only be completed if the exercise part is positive. The theoretical part is completed by a written multiple-choice examination (first option: end of the semester).
If the theoretical part is negative, the course is assessed as negative. If the exercise part is assessed positively, it is possible to take the theoretical part again at a later examination date.
The lecture is based on the book "Introduction to communication systems" by U. Madhow. Hard copies are available in the library. A .pdf is available for download from the author's website.
Lecture slides will be made available for download as the course progresses. A script is in progress, but will not be finalized during this semester.
