Aim of course

The student should recognize that interference combating in wireless applications is a valuable resource to increase the capacity. This capacity resource is not fully exploited nowadays. Learn to analyze the methods of interference combating. The student should be able to distinguish between optimum systems, robust systems and systems employing interference reduction techniques. The student should be familiar with the most popular interference reduction schemes.

Subject of course

Motivation. Interference reduction in general: Communication environment, Orthogonality, Figure of merits, Complexity, Interference avoidance, Robustness, Reliability, Communication resources, Responsibility. Conventional binary communication system. Spread-Spectrum System. Discrimination between robust systems and systems employing interference reduction. Principles of interference combating: Decorrelation, Interference reversal. Interference reduction techniques: Whitening, Estimating, Transformation, Nonlinearity, Orthogonality. Advanced interference combating techniques: Preventive interference combating for future wireless applications, (Adaptive) nonlinear pre-processing, Cooperative and non-cooperative interference combating. Concluding considerations: Evolution of interference combating techniques, Future of interference combating techniques. Brief literature review.

Additional information

Who should attend? Students who want to look behind the telecommunication secrets. Students who want to enrich their experience not only in telecommunications. Students who prepare for the exams “Telekommunikation” or “Einführung in die Telekommunikation”. This course is a must for every open minded student. I hope you make the lecture more valuable with your contributions regarding creativity and spontaneity.
