Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to design simple antennas, model them numerically, compute key performance indicators, manufacture prototypes, and to characterize them by measurements.

Subject of course

At first three lectures will give an introduction to antenna parameters, functionality and design of simple antenna structures, and antenna characterization. In the third lecture the class will be divided into groups (2-3 persons per group) for the practical part of the course. The practical part includes dimensioning, design, and characterization of a simple antenna.

Handouts will be available during the courses. A standard text book in german language about antennas, "Rothammels Antennenbuch" (Alois Krischke, 12. aktualisierte und erweiterte Auflage, DARC Verlag), which is particularly devoted to the practical realization of antennas, will be at hand during the lectures.
