Aim of course

Knowledge of the most important techniques for channel coding; understanding of the information-theoretic background

Subject of course

The promise of channel capacity. Channel coding - basic facts. The discrete memoryless channel. Optimum decoding (MAP, ML) for the AWGN channel and the discrete memoryless channel. Linear block codes. Cyclic block codes. Convolutional codes. Turbo codes und iterative decoding. Graph-based decoding techniques. Performance of codes. Information-theoretic considerations.
