Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand and apply the methods described unter the item "Lehrinhalte". This includes the ability to design digital filter for noise reduction or the spectral analysis of discrete-time signals.

Subject of course

Time domain description of signals and systems, frequency domain description, Fourier transform, sampling of analog signals, Z-transform, digital filters, discrete Fourier transform, FFT. Presentation of problems and simulations with MATLAB or OCTAVE, basic digital signal processing applications.

Teaching methods

Lectures: Online-Presentation of slides, matlab-based demonstrations, e.g. spectral analysis, filter design, Fast Fourier Transform

Tutorials: independent problem solving, individual feedback from teaching assistants

Literature

The course text is the book "Zeitdiskrete Signale und Systeme", 3rd edition, by Gerhard Doblinger. It is available as an Ebook (free of charge) in addition to the lecture slides and the screencasts. A collection of tutorial problems, a collection of mathematical formulae and tables, as well as MATLAB examples (also used in the lectures for demonstation) can be found, as all other materials, in TUWEL. A collection of past exams (incl. model solutions) are also available on TUWEL.

Previous knowledge

Basic courses in Mathematics are necessary to understand the material: knowlege of "Signals and Systems 1" ist helpful.
