Aim of course

This lecture takes a look at the evolution of the intelligent network as conceived by the ITU-T in the mid of the 90s. As a basis for todays telecommunications network a short description of the underlying packet data network - the signalling system 7 - is given. Main users of the concepts of intelligent networks are the mobile networks GSM and UMTS. To set intelligence in the network into context and in order to reflect on the convergence of data communications and telecommunications the evolution of the internet is described and the difference between intelligence in telecommunications and in the internet is analysed. The second part of the lecture deals more closely with the evolution of the concept of intelligence in telecommunications networks.

Subject of course

* IN today * IN Capability set 3 and 4 (PINT and SPIRITS) * ENUM as enabler of convergence * VoIP as the Nethead's vision of future telecommunications * Next Generation Network as the Bellhead's answer to convergence * Parlay, Jain and OSA as evolution of Service Creation
