Knowledge about the multitude of wired and wireless industrial communication systems (fieldbus systems, industrial Ethernet, real-time Ethernet) for various automation domains, comprehension of the fundamental networking concepts, deepened insight into special topics such as real-time behaviour, security, safety, robustness, and fault tolerance.
The lecture presents fundamentals of industrial communication networks: protocols, wireless and wired technologies, real-time behaviour, standardization, security and safety aspects as well as application examples. Individual fieldbus systems (Profibus, CAN, Interbus, LON,...) will be treated as well as real-time Ethernet and wireless systems.
