Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to conduct a small-size scientific project from literature search, experiment design, and collecting experiment data. Especially students are able to write a scientific report in a proper academic style that requires for master thesis work for graduation. In the project, students gain deep knowledge and experience for the chosen research topics and are able to explain the current state of the art and challenges in the topic.

Subject of course

Project-oriented work by means of a concrete project encompassing the following tasks:

  • Project preparation (project plan)
  • Working on the project
  • Project documentation and presentation

The individual projects are given in selected topics from the following list:

  • Mechatronics
  • Instrumentation
  • Precision measurement systems
  • Optical metrology
  • Precision motion systems
  • Telescope systems and adaptive optics
  • Scanning measurement systems and sensors
  • Image processing for automation
  • Component-based automatoin
  • Modular robotics
  • industrial automation systems

Teaching methods

Students will have a lab space or study environment to conduct short research on a specific topic, including literature search, simulation study, and experiment design and validation based on the guidance of the supervisor. The progress of the individual project are presented two times to supervisors and other students and the final report is written to conclude the result of the project. At the beginning of the project, a lecture is given to support efficient project management and successful scientific research activities, and to guide scientific writing for a well-written final report.
