Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • utilize modern numerics software (Matlab/Simulink) to model, simulate and analyze dynamical systems.
  • mathematically describe simple mechatronic systems.
  • apply linear control design methods (loop-shaping, pole placement) to such systems.

Subject of course

Introduction to basic concepts of the simulation of dynamic systems using modern numerical simulation programs (Matlab/Simulink), application of the control concepts to specific examples. The excersises are focussed on loop shaping and state space methods.

lab course, preparation of problem sets prior to the lab courses, independent solution of advanced exercises during the lab course, discussion of the theoretic foundation during the lab course

Additional information

  • Preliminary discussion will take place on October 18th 2022, 2 pm in room CA0426 (computer lab at the institute).
  • Exercise course starts at the beginning of December 2022
  • Used software: MATLAB/Simulink + Control System Toolbox
  • Guidelines for the exercise course:
    The exercises for all lab units are made available on the homepage of the institute one month before the first exercise. The corresponding exercises for each lab unit have to be thoroughly prepared in groups of two persons by the students. During the lab units the prepared exercises are discussed and new examples are elaborated. Please make sure that you already know before the kick-off meeting with whom you want to form a group of two persons, if possible. The registration for the groups is open after the preliminary discussion via TISS.
  • In case the COVID-19 situation does not allow the lab course to take place in presence, the course will move to Zoom meetings in groups of two.
