376.067 Measurement Equipment - an introduction
This course is in all assigned curricula part of the STEOP.
This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2018W, LU, 1.0h, 1.0EC, to be held in blocked form

Properties

  • Semester hours: 1.0
  • Credits: 1.0
  • Type: LU Laboratory Exercise

Aim of course

The main aim of this course is the comprehension of electrical fundamental terms and the ability to measure relevant properties of electrical circuits (voltage, current, frequency, ...) using modern measurement devices (multimeter, digital oscilloscope).

Subject of course

The course consists of three parts:

  • 1. Measurement of voltage and current: main properties of voltage and current are explained. These physical quantities are measured during experiments with fundamental circuits of resistors. Resistor values are measured.
  • 2. Waveform generator: main properties of alternating signals are discussed. A waveform generator is used for experiments to determine complex resistors (RC and RL) and to measure their frequency responses.
  • 3. The oscilloscope: the working principle and usage of a modern digital oscilloscope are explained. Measurements on alternating signals are done and their main properties are determined. A multimeter and a digital oscilloscope are compared acording to reachable measurement results.

Additional information

This course is intended for first semester students of electrical engineering (033 235) only!

The course can not be credited for the bachelor program Electrical Engineering and Information Technology  - therefore it is no mandatory course.

The course will be held in Messtechnik-Labor (CA 0402) at ACIN, Gusshausstrasse 27, 4th floor. Registration starts at  September, 1st via TISS. Supporting documents are available around mid of September 2017 via TISS and are required to be printed at home. A calculator (e.g. TI30) may be beneficial.
