2019W, VU, 4.0h, 5.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 4.0
  • Credits: 5.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand and apply basic knowledge on design and control of electrical direct current (DC) machines and alternating current (AC) machines

Subject of course

Part "Electrical Drives" (Prof. Schrödl):
Module 1: DC motor and DC drive
Module 2: AC drive - structure and inverter
Module 3: Mathematical description of AC machines
Module 4: Permanent magnet synchronous machine (PSM)
Module 5: PSM in "Brushless DC" - mode

Part "Design of Electrical Machines" (Prof. Schmidt):
Basics of design and calculation
DC and AC armature windings

Teaching methods

Deeper discussion of the chapters of the basic lecture combined with examples to be calculated.

Mode of examination

Written

Additional information

In the "Drives" modules, the functionality of electrical machines is studied using the DC motor and the permanent magnet synchronous motor as examples. During the lessions, examples are solved in group work. A document of the solution is written by the group.

In the "Design of Electrical Machines" part, the basic design methods of electrical machines will be presented. Short, individual tasks are carried out to deepen the immediate understanding.

For both parts, lecture notes are available at the insitute 370-2.
