After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand and apply basic knowledge on design and control of electrical direct current (DC) machines and alternating current (AC) machines.
Part "Electrical Drives" (Dr. Hofer):Module 1: DC motor and DC driveModule 2: AC drive - structure and inverterModule 3: Mathematical description of AC machinesModule 4: Permanent magnet synchronous machine (PSM)Module 5: PSM in "Brushless DC" - modePart "Design of Electrical Machines" (Prof. Schmidt):Basics of design and calculationDC and AC armature windings
Deeper discussion of the chapters of the basic lecture combined with examples to be calculated.
In the "Drives" modules, the functionality of electrical machines is studied using the DC motor and the permanent magnet synchronous motor as examples. During the lessions, examples are solved in group work. A document of the solution is written by the group. In the "Design of Electrical Machines" part, the basic design methods of electrical machines will be presented. Short, individual tasks are carried out to deepen the immediate understanding.
Introduction on 05.10.2022, 11:30 AM in room EI2For both parts, lecture notes are available for download at the first lecutre unit.
Part "Electrical Drives": Calculate solutions of examples with teaching software LETTO.
Part "Design of Electrical Machines": Short, individual examples and developing solutions.
End of semester: Written test with examples from both parts, all students take part.
A registration in TISS is required. The access to lecture notes, links, etc. is permitted after TISS-registration.
Lecture notes are availabe at the first lecuture unit.
Linear differential equations, complex phasors, fundamentals of electrical engineering.
