This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2021W, VU, 2.0h, 3.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise
  • Format: Online

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to analyze and to fundamentally design power electronic circuits in their basic functions as well as to present and explain the associated current / voltage characteristics of line- and self-commutated power converter circuits.

Subject of course

Power Electronics usally is defined as "control and conversion of electrical energy by application of electronic switches". Consequently, power electronics serves as a basis for modern electrical drives, for power supplies and for many other industrial applications and, therefore, is defined as a substantial part of Industrial Electronics by leading companies of the electric industry. The lecture covers the most important components, power and control circuits as well as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

Teaching methods

Explanation and discussion of basic topologies and operation, calculation of dimensioning exercises

Mode of examination

Written and oral

Additional information

According to the Rectorate's mailing on September 17, 2020, all courses in higher semesters are to be held in distance learning format as far as possible.

The course therefore is held live online via Zoom,
every Wednesday 14:00-16:00, starting online on October 6th, 2021

Registration via TISS is required.

This course is primarily aimed at students in the 033 235 or 066 506 branches of study (registration requirement, please contact the lecturer if you do not meet these requirement and would like to attend the course anyway for important reasons).
In order to be able to keep the LVA in "presence mode" later, there is a limit of max. 88 students, = lecture hall capacity).

All registered participants can download the presentation slides via TISS at the beginning of the lecture (please note copyright!) And, if necessary, print them out themselves.

Alternatively, the script can also be ordered in paper form (at lecture start, but only as black and white copy, 1- or 2-sided, EUR 10,-). If you would like a paper script, please send an email to as soon as possible

skriptum.372033@gmx.at

This email should only consist of a subject line as follows:
"LE, family name, first name, 1-sided" (= script, 1-sided copied) .... or
"LE, family name, first name, 2-sided" (= script, 2-sided copied)
