Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the fundamental operational characteristics of DC and poly-phase machines as well as their armature windings, to know details about stationary and transient behaviour of synchronous machines, to characterize effects and consequences of current displacement and higher field as well as time harmonics.

Subject of course

Duty cycles, heating and cooling of electrical machines, operational behaviour and fundamental calculating algorithms of DC machines, synchronous and asynchronous induction machines as well as transformers, armature windings of DC and induction machines, eddy currents and current displacement, inverter fed operation of electrical machines.

Teaching methods

In addition to the contents of the lecture, discussion of case studies as well as calculating exercises of existing electrical machines.
