Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to work on and implement selected topics in industrial electronics. The focus is on power electronic systems in the direction of power supplies with DC output, especially for the supply of computers, telecom equipment, industrial controls, medical electronics and special topologies of active DC and inverters including the performance and the layout off electronic power semiconductors and their application in power electronic circuits as well as in the field of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and the grid-compatibility of power electronic devices and systems.

Subject of course

Overview concerning power supply structures, especially switch-mode power supplies, details for buck-, boost- and buck-boost and higher order topologies, forward and fly-back circuits, resonant power supplies, control circuits, components and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Treatment of the structures and their operation, analysis of the transfer functions and of the control characteristic as bases for current and voltage control dimensioning.
