Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to design traction drives and take into account the special features when designing three-phase asynchronous motors for traction operation.

Subject of course

Design and calculation of induction motors for traction drives in the fields of trams, metros, powerhead trains and locomotives: Load spectrum, drive cycles: Co-operation of inverter - traction motor - drive system: Electrical and thermal calculation, design basics and design parameters of traction motors: Control systems and control units: Special machines (permanent magnet motors, transverse flux motors, wheel hub motors): Visit at the company Traktionssysteme Austria, Wiener Neudorf.
