Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to select by themselves - embedded in the scientific surrounding area of the thematic background of their dissertation and appropriate to the data base at hand -  suited methods and compose solution approaches as well as in addition to develope suited computer programs or combine standard software modules in order to gain the desired reluts. For this goal they require the capabiitiy to perform by their own necessary further search for useful references in literature. Besides writing the dissertation thesis itself (and beforehand papers about it) they can also arrange the defence of their work in the course of Rigorosum (doctoral examination).

Subject of course

Scientific supervision of dissertation. Discussion of thematic topics in connection with dissertation. Guidelines for goal-oriented structuring of dissertation thesis.

Teaching methods

Discussion of progress on work on PhD-thesis on behalf of in between results with the lecturer and among the attending students. Preparing and giving presentations about (partial) results as kind of sample tests for the rigorosum (doctoral examination). Exemplary comparison with doctoral theses on similar areas the lecturer has supervised.

Criterions for evidence of achievement are the active partipisation on discussions in the course of the privatissimum, the sample-presentations given thereby and finally a successful defence of the thesis during the doctoral examination (rigorosum).
