After successfully completing the course, students are able to roughly design an electric drive for a road or rail vehicle. With the specification of the driving cycle and the driving resistances, the power, the maximum torque and the maximum speed should be specified. The main dimensions of the electrical machine and the essential electrical data for the inverter and battery or power supply should be determined from these values. An estimation of the masses and volumes complete the calculation design.
Calculation of driving resistances for road and rail vehiclesCalculation of the required power, torque and speed data Estimation of the continuous power and peak power from the torque-speed diagram with the probabilities of the operating points Estimation of the electric drive using Esson's power equation Dimensioning of the main dimensions for an ASM or PSM Estimation of the individual masses, the total volume and other design sizes(Voltage, current, power, energy content of the batteries in road vehicles)
