Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to classify, design and use power electronic converters for applications in renewable energy systems in the basic functions and structures. This concerns to current circuit topologies and operation modes as well as to analysis methods and components, in particular semiconductor devices. In addition, control methods and general control engineering approaches for reliable operation of such converter systems in practice.

Subject of course

Analysis and simulation of state-of-the-art single and three-phase power electronic circuits for renewable energy systems and industrial applications.
Implementation of PV and wind power plants and appropriate control and filter strategies.
Applicability of modern (Silicon-Carbide, Gallium-Nitride) semiconductor technology in comparison to relevant and reliable state-of-the-art concepts (IGBT, Si-MOSFETs).
Simulation of a common power electronics issue using a commercialized simulation tool.
Remark: Course held in German language!
