After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the various production technologies, concepts, components and also simple systems in microfluidics and to evaluate their advantages and disadvantages.
How do liquids behave on the microscopic scale? What phenomena emerge there? What possibilities arise there and what can be done differently than in the macroscopic world? We are currently experiencing a rapid development, which is leading to new technologies and products, especially in the life sciences.
The lecture gives a comprehensive overview of the typical microfluidic components and systems, with the relevant basics in each case. Current developments, e.g. COVID tests and blood cytometry for the detection of cell changes in long COVID, will also be discussed.
