Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the basic physical concepts of novel optoelectronic devices. The teched topics are very basic and of essential importance for every student in the field of optoelectronics and nanostructures. The gained knowledge  will thus be helpful for any thesis in the field of nanophotonics.

Subject of course

The course will cover optical phenomena in semiconductor nanostructures and their application in different novel devices. After a revision of optical principles and interaction between light and matter, the control of spontaneous emission, quantum cavity electrodynamics in quantum dots, single photon emission and cavity switching will be addressed. Finally, the use of nanostructures in some particular devices such as lasers, detectors and solar cells, will be covered.
