After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
... understand the advantages and disadvantages of specific methods for micro- & nanofabrication ... combine methods from lithography, deposition and etching to obtain simple microelectronic devices... understand the importance of the biocompatibility of materials, that are in immediate contact with living cell cultures.... can apply microelectronic devices for electrophysiological measurements of living cell cultures (e.g. bioimpedance spectroscopy)... build biomedical interfacing with field effect devices - ISFET; EOSFET, neuronal Interface, biomedical application of operation amplifiers.
Micro- & nanofabrication methods and materials involved, direct biomedical-interfacing with microstructured surfaces, direct biomedical-interfacing with microelectronic devices, biomedical interfacing with microelectrodes - bioimpedance spectroscopy, biomedical interfacing with field effect devices - ISFET; EOSFET, neuronal Interface, biomedical application of operation amplifiers.
The theoretical know-how gained during the lecture (4 lectures a 3 hr) will be deepend by a 1-day practical lab exercise. Due to the intensive interaction with students in 2019 only 6 Groups a 3 students will be available.
interactive lecture, study of recent journal publications, presentations by students, 1-day labcourse consisting of (A) microchip fabrication in the cleanroom and (B) passaging a cell culture onto a chip.
Lectures: 6 Lecture blocks in Oct & Nov
Lab exercise: 1-day lab exercise in groups a 3 persons
one day / student in December - January exact dates on individual appointment (will be organized during lecture block)
Students of the following curricula will be given priority, as this lecture is mandatory oi their curriculum:066 453 Biomedical Engineering 066 936 Medizinische Informatik
presentation of scientific paper, attendence in practical lab, Final: ORAL EXAM
Due to limited ressources this exclusive course is limited to 15 students.Biomedical Engineering (BME) students will be given priority over Medical Informatics (MI) students, as this course ins compulsory for BME while its an elective for MI.We thank for your understanding.
