Structure, operation and application of modern electron devices, behavior during large and small signal operation, models, basic analog and digital circuits. Emphasis on current trends in microelectronics. Analysis of (mostly analog) circuits.
All important semiconductor devices and basic circuits, including diodes, bipolar transistors and FETs. Structure, operation, and characterization, static and dynamic, small- and large-signal models. Basic circuits, in particular amplifiers, current and voltage sources, differential amplifyer, power amplifyers, basic circuits for digital electronics. Operational amplifiers characteristics and basic circuits. Emphasis on current trend in basic building blocks of microelectronics.
We aim at making the exercises both managable for students without previous knowledge in circuit analysis ("AHS") and interesting for students with ("HTL"). Therefore it is unavoidable that students coming from an AHS need slightly more time than for exercises of other similar courses. In each week additional problems ("zusätzliche Übungsaufgaben") are offered to increase your level of proficiency. We recommend to all students solving the additional problems in preparation for Klausuren!
Organization of Exercises: The exercises comprise Großgruppenübungen (Thursday in EI 9, attendance recommended) and Kleingruppenübungen (Tuesday, attendance mandatory). There is regular question time after each Großgruppenübung and at two separate dates before 2. Klausur. These separate dates are intended for questions that have arised during solving problems in preparation for the 2. Klausur.
The Kleingruppenübungen start at the times given sharply, and are designed for a duration of 60 minutes. Occasionally, we might need another 15 minutes.
Enrollment: You must enroll for the exercises until one day before the first Großgruppenübung. All enrollments received until that time will be considered, but enrollments on waiting list might be moved to another group. Afterwards, until one day before the first Kleingruppenübung, changing the group by enrollment to another group will be possible subject to available space. Enrollments on waiting list then will no longer be considered.
Absence from Kleingruppenübungen: In case of illness, please bring a medical certificate to our secretary. If you have an exam or must attend another course, download the form available on TUWEL, have it signed by the lecturer of the other course, and hand it over to the secretary. In all other cases, contact the main instructor of the exercises (Hobler). The same applies if you know in advance that you cannot attend 3 or more of the Kleingruppenübungen, e.g., due to an employment. In this case you may be dispensed from attending Kleingruppenübungen. In case of excused absence your other scores will be upscaled so that you could reach the maximum score.
Exams: You must register separately for each exam. Missing the 1. Klausur is handled analogous to absence at a Kleingruppenübung, i.e., your other scores will be upscaled so that you could reach the maximum score. If you cannot attend the 2. Klausur or if you simplay want to increase your score, you may take the Nachklausur. Scope of 2. Klausur and Nachklausur includes everything with emphasis on the second half. Be warned that the score at Nachklausur replaces the one of 2. Klausur even if it is lower.
Lecture notes for this course are available in the Sekretariat des FKE, Floragasse 7, 1. Stock bei Fr. Pflug. Material for the exercises are available in TUWEL
