Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • Understand the basics of compact modeling of MOSFETs and its application to design integrated CMOS circuits
  • Design of simple low voltage low power CMOS circuits like inverter, NAND gate, NOR gate, ring oscillator etc. employing MOSFETs
  • Understand the different type of power dissipation in CMOS circuits and methods to reduce the power consumption of a circuit
  • Designing of circuits and analyzing different parameters and properties using Spice

Subject of course

This course will provide students the basic knowledge to create and simulate integrated digital CMOS circuits. The course further introduces principal design techniques for integrated circuits and basic knowledge required to analyze small circuits. For this students will implement simple circuits like the CMOS inverter and analyze its transfer characteristics, signal delay and power consumption in the on and off-state. This study will be extended to NAND gate, NOR gate XOR gate etc.. Further to this, in the lecture dynamic logics, pass transistor logics, and transmission gates will be briefly discussed.

Teaching methods

Simulation of circuits after presentation of the basics, and final presentation of the results.
