Acquisition of practical knowledge in the fields of patent law, trademark law, design protection and copyright (national, European, international) of relevance to engineers.
The following topics are dealt with in the lecture: (1) What is the protection of intellectual property? Why does it exist? Who benefits? Patents - trademarks - designs etc. (2) Patents in Austria: What can be patented? Researchers and inventors - Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde. (3) Who can apply for a patent? When can a patent be applied for? (4) The Long March: From the inventor to the applicant to the patent owner to the exploiter! Who helps as from when and why? (5) The employee as an inventor: many obstacles and difficulties. (6) The licensee, the unknown being. (7) Foreign countries, terra incognita. (8) The international treaties. (9) The engineer in the patent department: How do I find, read, interpret a patent specification? (10) What to do against infringers? (11) Protection of software. (12) The engineer in the marketing department - nature of trademarks. (13) Foreign trademark law. (14) The engineer in the design department - designs etc. (15) Copyright aspects of circuit diagrams.

Obwohl die Vorlesung bei einigen Themenkreisen speziell auf elektrotechnische Aspekte eingeht, ist sie für jede Technikerin/jeden Techniker, die/der sich mit der ingenieurmäßigen Problemumsetzung beschäftigt bzw. hinkünftig beschäftigen möchte, sehr empfehlenswert. Der Vortragende ist Patentanwalt und Akademischer Europarechtsexperte in einer etablierten Kanzlei und weist neben dem fachlichen Wissen fundierte praktische Erfahrungen auf.
