After successful completion of the course, students are able to ...
- ... carry out simple economic assessments of different renewable energy systems and understand and interprete the results
- ... explain the key characteristics, potentials, challenges, opportunities and future perspectives of renewable energy systems, with a special focus on renewable electricity generation, renewable heating/cooling systems and the specific role of bioenergy
- ... discuss the pros and cons of different energy policy instruments and support schemes for renewable energies
This lecture provides an overview on future perspectives of renewable energy (RE) technologies, focussing on economic and policy aspects. The lecture will be held in English, clustered into blocks, whereby each block is dedicated to a certain topical focus:
- Introduction: the energy & climate challenge and basics of economic assessment,
- Biomass - a key option within all energy sectors
- Renewable energy technologies for heating and cooling,
- Renewable energy technologies for electricity generation – potentials and costs,
- The role of energy policy - support schemes for RE systems,
- Visions and perspectives of renewable energy systems on a global, European and nation scale
