355.040 Aspects of Material Science in Electronics
This course is in all assigned curricula part of the STEOP.
This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2014S, SP, 2.0h, 2.0EC, to be held in blocked form

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 2.0
  • Type: SP Seminar and Practice

Aim of course

The importance of material science in electronics is demonstrated by several practical examples. The participants learn the subject of the seminar by supported study of relevant literature on their own. Selected issues will be demonstrated and discussed by practical experiments. The students will work out and present a selected topic by a seminar talk and a written report.

Subject of course

Electronics components (passive and active, photo diodes, LEDs, operational amplifiers, sensors and actuators), power supplies (transformers, rectifiers, control circuits), selection of components, and circuit layout. Examples of recent successful projects: Development of LED-based ring lamp for microscopes, power LED driver module, thermal optimization of miniaturized power components, contributions to a high-voltage test station for break-down voltage testing of dielectric materials.

Additional information

The course is hold in blocks according to individually agreed appointments. Depending on the extent of work students can also form project teams.
