Ziele der Lehrveranstaltung

This course allows students to deepen their knowledge in RF design and measurements. Students will be given individual small projects and will complete them. Depending on the type of project and the students' interest the focus will be put on either on measurements or circuit design. This is a hands-on course giving students the chance to work with state of the art microwave design tools and microwave measurment systems.

Please note: This course can be enrolled in parallel with "Advanced RF Techniques"!

Inhalt der Lehrveranstaltung

Students can choose from a list of individual topics/problems which need to be solved on an individual basis. A strong focus will be put onto hands-on topics, requiring the student to assemble an RF PCB and/or perform measurements in the lab. Depending on the chosen topic, microwave simulators (2.5D or 3D full wave EM-simulators) will be used as well.

Examples for topics are (the current list of topics will be presented during the kick off meeting):

  • Butler-matrix for eight antennas
  • PIN-diode based phase-shifter
  • PIN-diode based attenuator
  • transmit/receive-switch
  • 3D EM simulation of a resonator
  • picosecond pulse generation
  • EMC measurement with GTEM-cell
  • phase noise analysis of two synchronized PLL-synthesizers
  • ...

Please note: Students can bring in their own topics as well - the supervisor will check if it fits the lecture.

The work will mainly be done self contained. Of course, the supervisors are available for questions and support). At the end of the term you present your results to other course attendees by a 15min presentation and hand-in a report to your supervisor.
