Grundlagen zu biomedizinischen Instrumenten and Techniken wird geboten, unter Einschluß von Diagnose-, Therapie- bis hin zu Langzeitüberwachungstechniken. Die Wirkungsweise von Geräten im Rahmen von Übertragung, Verarbeitung wie auch Interpretation von Biosignalen wird erklärt.
Einführung in die Theorie, Praxis und Limitierungen von klassischer Biomedizintechnik für diagnostische, therapeutische und Überwachungszwecke. Grundprinzipien der Halbleitertechnik, Operationsverstärker, Wandler, Datenaufnahme und -analyse werden vermittelt. Historische Aspekte, modernste Verfahren, z.B. zur Schlafüberwachung, wie auch zukünftige Trends, z.B. ubiquitäres Monitoring, werden angesprochen.
