Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to.../have knowledge about

  • the relevance and essential aspects of electrotechnical standardization
  • the interrelation of the legal aspects and standardization on national, European and international level
  • the Who’s Who in standardization
  • the strategic possibilities by participating in standardization 
  • the processes in standardization and the possibilities to influence standardization
  • the access to relevant information and the interpretation of the information
  • the basic aspects of electrotechnical certification

Subject of course

The economic and strategic relevance of standardization in general, interrelation of legal aspects and standardization, Who’s Who in electrotechnical standardization (IEC, CENELEC, ETSI, ITU-T, IEEE), definition of state-of-the-art and codes of practice, legal environment (European law: Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, Radio Equipment Directive, standardization regulation; national law: Elektrotechnikgesetz, Elektrotechnikverordnung, Niederspannungsgeräteverordnung, EMV-Verordnung, Funkanlagen-Marktüberwachungs-Gesetz, Elektroschutzverordnung und Produktsicherheitsgesetz), WTO Technical Barriers to Trade, CE-marking, certification marks, from the idea to the standard: standardization processes within IEC, CENELEC and ETSI, workshop on standardization projects, electronic working and search tools in standardization and related areas, interpretation of search results, workshop on technical and legal cases, smart standards
