Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • apply technical, organizational and social foundations for planning, designing and evaluating existing and future assembly systems.
  • go into the special aspects of robotics & automation, human-robot interaction and digital assembly design.
  • provide an overview of existing assembly systems and types of assembly as well as a well-founded insight into assembly activities in accordance with VDI 2860.
  • apply existing assembly planning and design methods such as time management methods, assembly cost determination and the analysis of added value in assembly.
  • integrate and understand rationalization and humanization approaches in assembly design.
  • describe the role of humans as a central component of an assembly system.

Subject of course

Social aspects of assembly in Central Europe, humans as a central role in assembly (performance curves, stress and strain and load-impact, work content, ergonomics, work organization, occupational safety), rationalization / humanization measures in the assembly design, overview of existing assembly systems / assembly types / assembly activities, value added and waste in assembly activities, assembly costs, time management in assembly (MTM, REFA, primary-, secondary analysis, etc.). Planning, design and evaluation of assembly systems with existing methods (time management methods, cardboard engineering, digital methods), protection of personal data, usability, qualification in the assembly.

An excursion and a practical lecture round off the lecture and provide practice-oriented examples and experience from industry.
