Following the course of “Design of Information Systems for Production Management VO”, this exercise aims at applying the theory of Information Systems Design through practice oriented exercises, namely ..

1. Analyze and describe a real-world production process system and related data and information flows
2. Specify requirements regarding data and information needs for improved planning and control of such a system
3. Model a production process system from an integrated perspective including work, material and information flows by using state-of-the-art methods of information systems modeling
4. Create a requirements / design specification document according to industrial standards, e.g. DIN, ISO

The exercise will be structured in the format of a Group Project (Collaborative Teamwork)

The students will practice the lessons in a collaborative environment, which supports improving their transversal skills including presentation of key-findings, discussion with team members and learning by participating in teamwork activities.

  • Discussion of a selected case-study (exemplary production system)
  • Introduction to a state-of-the-art software tool for requirements specification and modeling
• Exercise phases and milestones:
  • Introduction to case-study
  • Tutorial for modeling tool
  • Introduction to Group task
  • Group forming, max 8 groups including max. 5 (min. 2) students
  • Milestone 1: Presentation and discussion of intermediary results
  • Milestone 2: Presentation and discussion of final results
  • Milestone 3: Submission of requirements specification document
