After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

• distinguish and use the basic concepts of financial accounting;
•  understand and implement the basics of double-entry accounting;
•  identify the objectives and contents of IFRS financial statements and distinguish them from financial statements prepared in accordance with national law;
•  understand the basic principles of accounting and valuation of important balance sheet items in IFRS financial statements;
• read, understand and interpret an annual report;
• assess the main approaches to integrating sustainability into corporate reporting in terms of their significance.

The course is basically offered as a VU (lecture with exercise). In addition to the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, the focus is thus also on the processing of numerous exercises in order to consolidate the knowledge and to demonstrate practical application issues.

Furthermore, elements of the "Flipped Classroom" concept are used. This means that students have to prepare selected content before each unit. These are discussed and deepened during the classroom sessions. This is followed by a follow-up phase (supplementary literature, exercise examples, etc.).

Registration in TISS is mandatory for completing the course. An additional registration for the exams is not required - students are automatically registered for all exams after registration in TISS. The relevant registration and deregistration deadlines for the course must be observed. Further organizational points will be discussed in the preliminary meeting (1st unit of the course).

The course is offered in the winter semester as well as in the summer semester (under the same course numbers) and can be attended by students of all fields of study.

A maximum of 100 points may be earned; these are distributed as among the following sub-credits:

    Two written exams worth 30 points each
    Three quizzes worth 10 points each
    One written paper at the end of the course for 10 points

The overall performance will be assessed according to the following grading scale (only the sum of all performances will be assessed, i.e. individual partial performances may also be negative or not performed):

    Very good: >= 87.5 points
    Good: >= 75 points
    Satisfactory: >= 62.5 points
    Sufficient: >= 50 points
    Not sufficient: < 50 points

The dates for the quizzes and for the written paper will be announced in the preliminary meeting.
